This is Rosalyn. She has big dreams and isn’t stopping at anything to achieve them. Her drive is contagious. She is currently a sophomore at Bridgeway Academy, an online homeschool, where she will be graduating in 2020. As the end of her high school days comes closer and closer, she has begun to think about what she would like to do with her life and where she wants the future to take her. She has narrowed her college choices down to four including Boston University, Wisconsin University, Quinnipiac, and Northeastern. She picked these schools because they all offer Division I Women’s Hockey.
Her entire life has always revolved around sports. She started surfing in Florida at the age of six when her mom brought her to a surf festival. This is how her love for water started. She remembers rushing home from school to finish her homework, so that she could get to the beach quickly. At the age of nine, she began playing hockey. She has been on five different travel hockey teams and from these experiences, she has learned many things that have helped make her a better athlete. Last year, she learned that the Philippines National Women’s Hockey Team knew about her and wanted her to play in a tournament with them. In May 2017, she went with her family to Hong Kong and played in the Hockey5’s tournament, where she competed against teams from Asia. The team ended won gold, and now, she is the starting goalie for the National Women’s Ice Hockey Team (Team Philippines). On top of that, she is the youngest member on the team and is the first Filipino-American to ever play on the team. Isn’t that amazing? Throughout her life, she has been blessed with opportunities that many others may not get, and she is eternally grateful for those opportunities. It has always been a dream for her to play hockey and now her future is showing signs of the Olympics. She has yet to figure out what direction she wants her life to go in after the Olympics but her eyes are on athletic training, underwater photography, or scuba diving instruction. She has a long way to go before she needs to makes a decision, so for now she is taking it one day at a time and enjoying life’s amazing moments because that is exactly what you should do at 15.
She wanted to share with others to never give up on their dreams. She says that no matter who may come in or out of your life or whatever may be standing in your way, you can achieve anything as long as you stay dedicated. These are rightful words, indeed.
Rosalyn and her family are currently raising support to help Rosalyn achieve her hockey dreams as she heads to the Philippines in 2018.
